Instructional Support from Librarians

Services
In addition to the services we offer to students, instruction librarians can also offer assistance to faculty teaching online courses including:

  • External review of your myCourses class pages: Walk through/audit the course and provide feedback on the course before it is opened to students.
  • Assistance finding online resources students can access as an alternative to IDS (Gutenberg,Hathi Trust, GoogleBooks, etc.)
  • IDS Remote Access to Materials--IDS can mail materials to students who are not near campus for online courses by changing their IDS account preferences from "hold for pickup" at Milne Library to "mail to primary address."  See the Get Books tab for step-by-step instructions. (*note that it will take longer and strongly encourage ebooks, book chapter requests and articles).
  • E-reserves
  • Proctoring exams (campus hybrid courses)
  • Links in myCourses to library resources, the online library guide or any other subject-specific library guide, the myCourses library tab, etc.
  • Communicate Tab in myCourses--links to this Guide, or IM a Librarian (chat) and Ask a Librarian (email)
  • Assistance with using/integrating Collaborative Technologies (see a list of more collaborative technologies at http://libguides.geneseo.edu/SocialMedia)
  • Assistance with developing assignments and/or grading
  • Librarian presence in the course discussions (all or preselected discussions)
  • Librarian develops specialized library guides for assignments
  • Librarian develops specialized wikis or Google Docs for assignments
(instructions for Using Google Apps for Geneseo can be found on the Geneseo Wiki at https://wiki.geneseo.edu:8443/pages/viewpage.action?pageId=68685702).

    Digital Media

The Digital Media at Geneseo is a CIT/Library collaborative effort to provide state-of-the-art support to the campus community.

Computers in campus labs, and video & audio equipment signed out at the CIT HelpDesk in Milne Library, allows students and staff to create vibrant and engaging media projects intended for all kinds of audiences. Skilled staff and students are on hand to teach important digital literacy skills that add to the high quality education found at SUNY Geneseo.
